Latest Dej-isms!

Our first born turns 3 next month :( How did this happen?
Here are some funny things she has said and done lately!

She LOVES her little brother and expresses that love unfortunately through touch, haha.  She always wants to hold his hand, hold him, put there heads together, hover directly above him (which mom and Calvin aren't much fans of).  She can often be heard saying things like, "Calvin you look like a Gummy Bear!" or "Calvin you look like a Door!  Knock, knock, knock."  haha  I don't know where she got either of those, but if you ask me he looks more like a gummy bear than a door.  If she doesn't see the baby around, she doesn't hesitate to ask and/or look for him.  Last but not least she loves waking him up from his naps, grrr.

Her favorite animal is a Pig.  I'm still not sure why... maybe because they're pink...maybe because she thinks Dogs and Cats are the scariest things on the planet...probably because she's never actually seen a real pig...  We have cats that live next door and they often like to hang out by our entrance to the house.  There have been 2 times that Deja was almost literally scared to death by them because they were lurking in the bushes and jumped out when they saw her.  To be fair, she probably scared them before they scared her haha.  Hopefully one day she won't be afraid of common house pets *crossing fingers*
John-"I am so not a cat person."
Random girl-"I am so not a dog person."
Deja-"I'm a pig person!"
Hahaha who knew she was even comprehending that conversation!

Favorite movie is Frozen.  So far her biggest request for her birthday is a Frozen Balloon.
When we were in Park City my sister Meri brought up "Frozen Cereal."  Deja ate it every morning until the day after she got sick :(  She's obsessed. Meri was nice enough to let her take the remaining cereal home so she could have it again when she felt better.  While we were there she also kept quoting the line "Nobody wants to be alone, except maybe you!"  and would reenact Anna climbing up the mountain, except she would climb the side of the pool, haha.  She still loves Daniel Tiger and will often quote/reenact scenes from that!  This is her wanting to wear Calvin's Clothes and succeeding ;)  (similar to Daniel wanting to wear his old baby clothes)

There are often times I hear Deja say things and I know she got them from me haha.  For example:
"Can I have a treat or something?"
"So... I was thinking we could watch a show or something!"
Apparently I add "Or something" to a variety of my sentences...
Also sometime during my pregnancy she started looking at her wrinkly fingers after bath time and calling them her "protein."  John and I talked a lot about protein in those days, and since I pricked my fingers 4 times a day,  I guess she put those two concepts together and went with it ;)

She went through this really cute stage where she would set her clothes out at night!!  I think she did it because I like to do it on Saturday nights before church (when I remember).  I loved going in there the next morning to see what she had chosen, but alas, it only lasted a month or two... maybe I'll try to talk her into start doing it again.
There was one afternoon where Deja randomly busted out the Kelly Clarkson song, "This is my heart beat song and I'm gonna play it, been so long..mumble.. up up up up all night long."  I just looked at her in amazement and laughed, but seriously it must have been stuck in her head because it came out of no where.

"The potty looks like a drum! Drum drum drum!"
Luckily the toilet lid was down at the time of her drum solo.

"Can I talk to comma?" also "Comma play Frozen" (I use the talk to text feature on my phone like an old person does, because lets face it, it's twice as fast, and being a mother of a newborn you have to get used to doing EVERYTHING one handed.  Anyway, because you have to say the punctuation you want, Deja now thinks "Siri's" name is "Comma," and it's pretty hilarious :)

Deja during dinner: "Can we talk about Dad?"
Me: "Sure what should we talk about?"
(Silence)
Me: "How about, What does dad like?"
Deja: "Running....doing homework....coming home..."
Me: "Haha, well alrighty then!"

"Is it to-now? Or to-yeah?"  (I keep trying to figure out her logic on this one, but I think "to-now"="today" and "to-yeah"="tomorrow")  It's weird, but cute.

Deja borrowed some underwear from her cousin, but forgot about it, so when she got home and went potty we had a conversation that went like this.  Keep in mind she's in the bathroom going potty and I'm in the kitchen:
Her: "Mom am I wearing Audrey's underwear?"
Me: "Yeah, she's sharing it with you, isn't that nice of her?"
Her: *Shouting at the top of her lungs* "THANKS AUDREY!!!"

She will frequently ask me if different characters on TV are boys or girls.   Mostly she'll ask about "Sadness" from inside out, and then ask about the rest of the characters.  So one day we were out driving and she asks,
"Is Cafe Rio a girl or a boy?"
I just laughed and said, "I don't know the answer to that one haha"

And then there's this kid!  He doesn't have very many kidisms yet, unless you count hard core spit up, like the kind where it comes out of his nose because it's so intense ;)  But he smiles and coo's at me when I'm having a hard mom day.  He has started to sleep a little longer at night, but still likes to eat about every 3 hours.  Good thing he's cute ;)  Everyone loves his hair and comments on how big he is!!  At his two month appointment he weighed 13.03 lbs (78%) and was 23.03 inches (50%).   He also favors looking to one side.  Dr. Schmidt says he was probably positioned like that in the womb, so we're supposed to stretch out the other side of his neck 3 times a day, and hold him so he faces the other way.  He hates it with a passion and shows it through tears and yelling, but hopefully it'll make a difference in the long run!

No Time!!! July-ish

Seriously though, so much has happened since my last post and I feel like there is not enough time to adequately put to words all our experiences, but I will regret if there is nothing, so here goes nothing!

For father's day we gave John socks chocolate chip cookies, and some of his favorite treats. We are very grateful for him, and he has been working so hard in his new position as a nurse.

The 4th of July we went to a neighborhood breakfast with my parents and then had a Bbq over at the Southwick's. It was nice that John had work off!  We traveled a lot during the month of July, enjoying a trip up to Idaho for John's cousin, Michael's wedding, a trip to Boise for the Southwick family reunion, promptly followed by a trip to park city for DuPaix family reunion! The kids were great in the car and we only had one malfunction when the car overheated in Twin Falls.  Luckily we were in the city when it happened!! We also successfully kept Calvin a secret from John's brother Kyle who was serving a mission in Hawaii. Kyle found out he was an Uncle again when we picked him up at the airport in Boise! John asked him if he could name all the grand-kids and was holding Calvin at the time. So naturally Kyle looked and pointed at Calvin and said "Jenny's son" to which John pointed over to the correct child and said, "no that's Jenny's son." Kyle then had a good long stare at Calvin and said "Who's this?" To which John said, "This is my baby, Calvin!" And Kyle said, "You had a baby?!?" It was pretty funny to watch, but I'm not sure how funny Kyle thought it was ;) Deja's favorite part of the trip was probably playing with cousins non stop, fun kids crafts, and the bounce houses. I was also able to sneak away to see our good friends Skye and Michelle perform as the leads in the Scarlet Pimpernel.  They were both phenomenal :)

John and Brian singing "I'm not crying" for the talent show!
In between our reunions we had a fun Hawaiian themed party for Kyle and blessed Calvin on Pioneer Day. It was a nice day were everyone finally heard Calvin's secret middle name, "Henry." Wayne was nice enough to let us host a luncheon in his back yard afterwards and it was perfect :)

Park city we enjoyed shopping, swimming, playing games, yummy food and spending more time with cousins! Besides all of those things, Deja's favorite part was the Arcade haha. Our least favorite part of the trip was when Deja and I got a bad stomach bug :( trying to teach her how to throw up and not swallow anything back down was so hard emotionally to deal with. I'm so grateful John was there to help us. Because of our sickness, the kids and I were only able to make it to Kyle's talk and didn't make it over to the house afterwards.

We went to a sock shop, so naturally I had to get John's picture with all the socks ;)

My mom stitched together this cute quilt for Calvin!!  I love the colors and design :)

Also, John's Dad got married!!  The wedding took place in their backyard and it turned out to be a really nice day :)

Getting a real smile out of Deja has been a struggle lately, so I'm loving her in this photo!
